Microsoft Stock Skyrockets $450B in One Day, Shatters Wall Street Record
Microsoft's shares saw a remarkable one-day gain of nearly $450 billion on Thursday, setting a new record for the largest one-day gain by any company in stock market history. According to Reuters data, this surpassed Nvidia's previous record of $441 billion set on April 9, 2025.
The jump was triggered by Microsoft's release of stronger-than-expected quarterly results, which included forecasts of robust growth for its Azure cloud business and continued strong cash generation. This helped alleviate investor concerns that the company's heavy spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure was not translating into returns.
Microsoft's market capitalisation now stands at $3.35 trillion after closing up more than 15%. The company's shares had lagged behind peers this year, down over 18% as of Wednesday's close, but Thursday's surge represents a sharp reversal.
