Microsoft Stock Tumbles as AI Adoption Gap Widens
Microsoft's stock price fell by 2.2% on Monday to $504.91, as the company reported that global adoption of generative-AI use continued to rise in the second quarter.
The study found that 18.8% of working-age people worldwide used generative AI, a significant increase from 17.8% in the first quarter.
However, this growth is unevenly distributed, with 28.8% of users in the Global North and only 16.2% in the Global South, resulting in a 12.6-percentage-point gap.
This development could potentially expand Microsoft's audience for its Azure and Copilot products, but investors are still uncertain about how much revenue the company will capture from this trend.
