Microsoft Teams Expands Security Features with Customizable File Blocking
Microsoft Teams is gearing up to give administrators more control over its security features. Starting in November 2026, admins will be able to customize which file extensions are blocked by the Weaponizable File Protection feature.
This enhancement aims to provide greater flexibility for organizations to tailor their security policies to specific company requirements. Currently, admins can only use the default list of blocked file types recommended by Microsoft, based on information from Bleeping Computer.
The upcoming update will allow administrators to manually adjust which file types are blocked within the platform. This change is part of a series of recent security enhancements for Teams, including blocking external users via the Defender portal and blurring QR codes from external senders to prevent phishing.
