Microsoft Teams to Add Deepfake Detection for Meetings
Microsoft Teams is set to introduce a new security feature aimed at detecting deepfake audio and video during meetings. According to Microsoft’s AI at Work Roadmap, the platform will support third-party detection tools that can identify manipulated content. Certified security providers will be able to integrate their solutions directly with Teams, analyzing meeting audio and video for signs of synthetic or AI-generated content.
The system will alert meeting organizers when suspicious activity is detected, allowing them to take appropriate actions. This feature is designed to mitigate risks associated with AI impersonation, recruitment scams, and fraudulent meetings. Microsoft is not developing the detection technology itself but will rely on third-party providers, giving organizations flexibility in choosing the best security solutions for their needs.
The deepfake detection integrations are scheduled to roll out in November 2026. This update comes amid growing concerns about AI-generated impersonation in online meetings and recruitment processes. Additionally, Microsoft has recently introduced other security enhancements, such as automatically blocking identified bots from joining meetings and deleting inactive Teams Planner plans after 180 days.
