Microsoft to Showcase Local AI Capabilities at Windows and Surface Event
Microsoft is hosting an event on October 7 in San Francisco to discuss the future of Windows and Surface devices, with local AI set to play a central role. The event will feature appearances from CEO Satya Nadella, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Microsoft Windows and Devices chief Pavan Davuluri.
The company has not confirmed any specific product launches for the event, but the executive line-up has sparked speculation about the potential release of the Surface Laptop Ultra, a device previously linked to Nvidia's RTX Spark platform. The RTX Spark angle would allow Microsoft to demonstrate local AI capabilities on the PC rather than in a distant data centre.
The last major Windows-focused event from Microsoft took place in May 2024, where Arm-based Copilot Plus PCs and renewed Qualcomm partnerships were announced. The October gathering is the first of its kind in over two years.
