Microsoft Touts Windows 11 Memory Allocation Feature for AI, Graphics
Microsoft is working on a new feature for Windows 11 called IntelligentCarveout. This feature allows users to decide how much of the pooled unified memory to reserve for graphics tasks and artificial intelligence, according to internal NVIDIA documentation.
The feature was first spotted in Windows 11 build 29648.1000, released on August 17. This build is part of Microsoft's Experimental Future Platforms channel, where the company tests changes before they are included in consumer versions of Windows.
IntelligentCarveout will primarily benefit NVIDIA RTX Spark systems with unified on-chip memory. The portion of memory reserved for the GPU or AI will not be available to other processes on the system and can be increased or decreased.
The new setting is currently hidden in the experimental build, but it may change or disappear completely at a later stage. Microsoft has already confirmed changes to Windows in May 2026 to increase the amount of system memory available to the RTX Spark GPU.
