Microsoft Unveils Agentic AI Plans for Windows at San Francisco Event
Microsoft is set to showcase its vision for AI-powered computing on PCs at an upcoming event in San Francisco on October 7. The company's senior executives, including CEO Satya Nadella and Windows and Devices chief Pavan Davuluri, will be joined by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang to discuss the future of local AI.
The presentation comes as Microsoft shifts its focus towards agentic AI, where systems can independently perform tasks on a user's behalf, rather than simply responding to requests. This approach is seen in various products and services, including Project Solara, Office Agent, and the agent integrated into Windows settings.
Much of the attention will be on hardware, particularly the Surface Laptop Ultra, which features an NVIDIA RTX Spark platform with 6,144 Blackwell graphics cores and 20 Arm cores. This device is designed for demanding workloads and has a maximum power consumption of 80 W. The unified memory capacity can reach 128 GB, making it suitable for running large AI models directly on the device.
The price of this laptop will be an important detail to watch during the presentation, as hardware designed for such workloads is unlikely to be inexpensive. Additionally, the company's strategy may focus not just on the hardware but how Windows will utilize its capabilities to create a more automated workflow.
