Microsoft Unveils Pay-As-You-Go OneDrive Pricing Option
Microsoft has introduced a new 'pay-as-you-go' pricing option for OneDrive storage, allowing Microsoft 365 commercial customers to purchase extra cloud storage capacity on demand. Previously, users could only buy additional storage in fixed packs of 100GB, 500GB, and 1TB through 6TB sizes.
The new consumption-based billing model automatically bills users for any storage used above their licensed quota, with the option to set budget limits and alerts via the Microsoft 365 admin center. The pay-as-you-go pricing is currently in public preview for business customers and will become available more widely starting in November.
The cost of additional OneDrive storage under this new model is $0.20 per GB per month, with a maximum limit of 25TB per user remaining in place. This move follows a similar shift in pricing for SharePoint, which also began public previewing pay-as-you-go storage options in June.
