Microsoft Unveils Snapdragon X2 Plus-Powered Surface Laptops and Pros
Microsoft has unveiled its latest Surface Laptop and Pro hardware at the Snapdragon Summit. The new devices are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Plus processor, which offers improved performance and efficiency.
The updated 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop models retain their fanless designs but promise significant gains in processing power. According to Microsoft, the new chips deliver up to 17% faster performance in Office productivity workloads, 18% better battery life, more than 60% faster graphics performance, and up to 95% faster local AI inferencing on the NPU.
The Surface Laptop features a premium aluminum body, full-size backlit keyboard, and precision touchpad. The display is now 25% brighter at 500 nits, and battery life is rated at up to 22.5 hours of local video playback. Pricing starts at $1,199, with availability set for October 13 in select markets.
The Surface Pro continues to offer its signature tablet-to-laptop flexibility, along with the optional Surface Pro Keyboard and magnetically stored Surface Slim Pen. It introduces Microsoft Ink Canvas, an AI-powered app for sketching, annotating, summarizing text, and generating images. The Surface Pro starts at $1,149.99, with commercial buyers able to opt for a 5G configuration.
