Microsoft Unveils Unified Copilot App with AI Chat, Coding, and Agents
Microsoft has unveiled its long-promised Copilot app, which combines AI chat, coding, and long-running agents into one unified platform for both business and personal use. The new version of Copilot adds sections called Home, Code, and Autopilot, allowing users to access Microsoft's Cowork agent, build their own apps with code, and set up always-on AI agents.
Copilot also brings full versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint inside the app, enabling users to create and edit documents without switching between applications. This move is seen as a response to OpenAI and Anthropic, which have been combining chat, coding, and agents in their own apps and selling them directly to businesses.
Microsoft executives emphasized the ability to switch between AI models from different companies, including OpenAI's GPT and Anthropic's Opus. They also highlighted the importance of companies being able to test models against their own benchmarks and swap one out for another.
