Microsoft's launch of Windows 95 marked a significant shift in the computing industry. The operating system was designed to usher PC users from the 16-bit code era to the 32-bit computing era, with its 32-bit design allowing for up to 4GB of memory.

The marketing campaign surrounding the launch reportedly cost between $100 million and $200 million. A global launch event took place on August 24 at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Washington, where Bill Gates announced that Windows 95 would enable broader communication via email and the online world, as well as dazzling multimedia and games.

In Malaysia, interactive demos of Windows 95 were distributed from July 24 to August 15, giving users a free preview of its new features before the launch. The operating system was launched on August 29, with computer makers announcing that PCs sold in Malaysia would come prepackaged with Windows 95.
