Microsoft Updates Consumer Services Agreement Amid Rise of AI-Powered Services
Microsoft has announced that it is updating its Consumer Services Agreement for online products and services. The revised agreement, which takes effect on September 30, 2026, aims to clarify terms and improve transparency.
The updated agreement places particular emphasis on Microsoft Copilot, an AI-powered service that is increasingly integrated into various consumer products. To address concerns around the use of AI models, Microsoft has added specific provisions governing AI services, including restrictions on reverse engineering and extracting underlying components or weights.
Other changes in the revised agreement include updates to language related to automatic software updates, revised terminology for Microsoft 365 products, and removal of outdated references to services such as Cortana and Groove. Additionally, introductory language describing the covered products and services has been revised to reflect Microsoft's evolving product lineup.
