Microsoft X Account Hacked by Crypto Scammers Promoting Clippy Token
Crypto scammers hijacked Microsoft's official X account on Thursday, using it to promote a Clippy-themed cryptocurrency token. The company's account, which has over 13 million followers, was compromised and used to follow another account and share one of its messages.
The hijacked account, @clippymsftcto, posed as the animated paperclip assistant Clippy, but it was later suspended. A second account involved in the incident promoted the $Clippy token, claiming that its liquidity pool was paired with Microsoft's stock ticker symbol ($MSFT).
Microsoft eventually took down the posts and apologized for the incident, stating that they do not support or endorse any cryptocurrency tokens. The company is continuing to investigate how the attackers gained access to their account.
