Microsoft X Account Hijacked for Unauthorized Clippy Token Promotion
Hackers have been using Microsoft's official X account to promote an unofficial Clippy-themed token. The promotional activity was removed roughly 30 minutes later, according to a report by The Verge.
MICROSOFT confirmed unauthorized access and said it had secured its account and removed the posts. A deleted statement rejected any connection between the Clippy token and ownership of Microsoft shares.
The promotional posts followed a profile image change to an image of Clippy, and users captured screenshots before they were deleted. The company is investigating how the access occurred.
