Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman said that controlling artificial intelligence (AI) 'is going to be a really, really big challenge' for labs. He emphasized that they should not create something they can't control.

Suleyman questioned why some in tech are opposed to new regulations on AI development. He stated that regulation is not a 'nasty, dangerous word,' but rather a necessary process to ensure safety and alignment with human intentions.

The comments come at a time of increased attention to AI safety, after former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon warned that AI workers are privately fearful that AI could wipe out humanity. Several high-profile tech leaders, including Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Dario Amodei, have expressed concerns about the need for better pacing in AI advancements to ensure safety measures can keep up.
