Microsoft is investigating an issue with its August 2026 Windows Updates that has caused problems for devices using RGB lighting features. The updates, released on August 11, have triggered issues such as freezing, crashing, and displaying access-violation errors in certain games.

The affected games include ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and THE FINALS. Users who experience the issue may see their games become unresponsive, close unexpectedly, or display an 'EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION' message.

Microsoft suspects that the problem lies in the interaction between RGB-related components and the affected games. The company has not yet determined the root cause but is working to understand the relationship between these components and the games that activate the issue.

In the meantime, Microsoft advises users to disable the inpoutx64 driver through the Windows Registry as a temporary workaround. However, this may disable or disrupt RGB lighting functions and the applications used to manage them.
