Microsoft's Copilot Overhaul: A New OS for Work?
Microsoft has revamped its Copilot tool, and CEO Satya Nadella is calling it 'a new OS for work'. The rebuilt app now includes three main pieces: Home, which merges chat and office tools, including full Word, Excel, and PowerPoint support; Code, a natural language app builder running on the same tech as GitHub Copilot; and Autopilot, a persistent agent that keeps working after the user closes their laptop.
Nadella made the announcement on X, framing Copilot as something bigger than just an assistant. The new Copilot will start rolling out to Microsoft's Frontier early access program over the coming weeks, with Autopilot moving into private preview by the end of September.
Microsoft is now offering separate pricing for everyday and intensive agent use, with a flat per-user license for everyday use and usage-based billing for heavier agentic work in Cowork, Code, and Autopilot.
