Microsoft's Free PC Manager App Shows Mixed Results in Performance Test
Microsoft's free PC Manager app has been put to the test by PCMag. The app claims it can 'effortlessly enhance' Windows performance with just one click, making it a potential alternative to paid third-party tune-up utilities like Ashampoo and CCleaner.
The app is available for download from the Microsoft Store and works on both Windows 10 and 11. It features an intuitive interface that includes options for PC Boost, Health Check, Storage Management, and more.
PCMag put PC Manager through its paces, testing its ability to speed up a Windows 11 machine with a Core i7 CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060i graphics card. The results showed some improvement in performance after running the app's Boost feature, but not drastically so. However, when combined with the Health Check feature, the overall PCMark score improved significantly.
The Health Check feature provides an animated visualization of system components as they are checked and generates a report highlighting areas for improvement. It also recommends actions to take, such as freeing up storage space and uninstalling unused apps.
Deep Cleanup is another useful tool that detects unnecessary files and allows users to remove them quickly and easily.
