Microsoft's KB5124008 Update Causes USB Audio Issues in Windows 11

Microsoft has confirmed that its recent KB5124008 update for Windows 11 is causing issues with USB audio devices. The problem affects some users who have installed the September 8, 2026 security update.

The company acknowledged the issue on its Windows release health page, stating that affected devices may fail to start or produce audio after installing the update.

According to Microsoft, the symptoms of this problem include an error message in Device Manager (Code 10), no audio output, unresponsive volume controls, and unavailability of sound settings.

The issue is limited to Windows 11 versions 24H2, 25H2, and 26H1. While Microsoft has acknowledged the problem, there is currently no fix available, with the company stating that it is working on a resolution.
