Microsoft's Snooping: How I Fixed It
For years, Digvijay used Windows without checking what kind of records Microsoft was keeping. He expected to find just a few simple logs but instead discovered page after page of activity on Microsoft's Privacy Dashboard.
The dashboard listed his browsing and search history, which went back months, including Bing searches he had long forgotten and things he typed into the Windows search bar. It also showed the Microsoft products he had been using under 'Apps and Services,' as well as spelling corrections and text adjustments in the 'Spelling and Text' section.
Digvijay realized just how much Microsoft knew about his PC, including his searches, app usage, and even the way he typed. He decided to clear out the existing logs and shut down extra data collection.
He started by reviewing and deleting the data linked to his account on the Privacy Dashboard, then proceeded to disable extra data collection on Windows. This included turning off 'Send optional diagnostic data' and disabling 'Improve inking and typing' in the Diagnostics & Feedback section of Windows Settings.
