Milwaukee Couple Transforms Living Room with Green Fireplace Makeover
Maudie and Ronnie Francek began renovating their 1928 Milwaukee home room by room, starting with the living room. They wanted to create a comfortable space where they could relax while tackling other parts of the house.
The room had 'great bones' but needed a fresh coat of paint to brighten it up and reveal the original features. The couple chose Sherwin-Williams' 'Snowbound' for the walls, adding warmth to the darker living room and connected dining room.
They also refinished the alcove's shelves, baseboards, trim, and French doors leading into the living room. By restoring the natural wood, they added layers to the transformation with different tones of warmth between the original wood and freshly painted walls.
The fireplace was originally painted, but the tiles were getting lost against the beige paint. Maudie and Ronnie decided to try something different and fully commit by painting the entire fireplace. They cleaned the hearth tiles and discovered a rich green-brown design underneath. They chose Sherwin-Williams' 'Andiron', color-matching the refreshed tiles.
After painting the bricks, the tiles popped out. The couple kept the decor simple with nods to mid-century modern in their furniture selection and brought in plants to bring in an outdoor touch.
