Mini Excavator Prices Plummet for 2026 as Chinese Brands Gain Ground
New mini excavator prices for 2026 have been analyzed by Rippa.com, a source that aggregated data from over 500 recent purchases and dealer quotes. The research revealed significant price variations across different brands and models. In the smallest size class (1.0-1.5 ton), new prices range from $18,000 to $28,000, while used prices for machines with 3-5 years of usage cost between $10,000 and $18,000. Chinese-brand excavators like Rippa are known to offer comparable specifications and longer warranties at a lower price point than equivalent Japanese or American models.
According to the study, premium brands such as Caterpillar, Kubota, Bobcat, and John Deere dominate the North American market with extensive dealer networks and proven reliability. However, they come at a higher price, ranging from $35,000 to $95,000 for new machines in different size classes. Mid-tier brands like Yanmar, Takeuchi, and JCB offer innovative features and solid quality at moderate prices, while value brands such as Rippa, SANY, and Liugong maintain significant price advantages.
The analysis also included a comparison between new and used mini excavators for two scenarios: a homeowner with 100 hours of usage per year and five-year ownership, and a light commercial user with 500 hours of usage per year and five-year ownership. The results showed that buying a used machine can be the most cost-effective option for homeowners but may come with higher repair risks.
