Salesforce Earnings Set to Spark Sharp Reaction from Traders

Salesforce is set to report its second-quarter results after the closing bell on Wednesday, and traders are bracing for a sharp reaction. The options market is pricing in a move of roughly $16.25, or 7.8%, which would leave shares trading anywhere from the high-$190s to the low-$220s.

Heavy activity has concentrated in $220 calls, indicating that some investors expect an upside breakout. However, the $190 put has emerged as a key battleground, suggesting that plenty of market participants are paying for downside protection.

The company currently pays a quarterly dividend of 44 cents per share, or $1.76 annually. To generate $500 in monthly dividend income, an investor would need to own approximately 3,409 shares, valued at about $701,197 at Tuesday's closing price of $205.69.

Salesforce has topped revenue estimates in seven of the past ten quarters, but its artificial intelligence push is still a concern for investors. The company needs to convince Wall Street that it can accelerate growth while keeping profits and spending in check.
