Mixed US Stock Market Closes Amid Sector Gains and Losses
US stocks closed mixed on Tuesday as some sectors outperformed while others lagged. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.36%, led lower by telecoms, financials, and oil & gas shares. However, gains in basic materials, consumer goods, and healthcare helped to stabilize the market.
The best performers on the Dow included Amgen Inc., up 4.34% or $17.05 to trade at $410.21, followed by Home Depot Inc. at 2.76% or $8.19 to end at $305.39, and 3M Company up 2.62% or $4.33 to close at $169.30.
The worst performers on the Dow were Cisco Systems Inc., down 4.50% or $5.02 to trade at $106.44, followed by JPMorgan Chase & Co. which fell 3.42% or $12.04 to end at $340.00, and American Express Company down 2.72% or $8.52 to close at $305.07.
The S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite also showed mixed results, with the top performers on both indices including Monolithic Power Systems Inc., Celanese Corporation, and Lennar Corporation. In contrast, Gen Digital Inc., Godaddy Inc., and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. were among the worst performers.
