Moderna and Merck's mRNA Cancer Vaccine Shows Promise in Melanoma Trial
Moderna and Merck announced the results of their late-stage clinical trial on a personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, known as intismeran. The study combined this vaccine with Keytruda, a drug developed by Merck, to treat patients with adjuvant melanoma.
The trial involved patients whose tumors had been surgically removed and focused on slowing the recurrence of melanoma and its spread to other parts of the body. This is the first randomized Phase III clinical trial designed to confirm the benefits of neoantigen vaccines in cancer treatment.
According to STAT News, Moderna and Merck did not release detailed trial data immediately after announcing the results. If confirmed, this approach could open up possibilities for use in other types of cancer and demonstrate the potential of the mRNA platform for developing vaccines and therapeutic agents.
