Moderna-Merck Cancer Vaccine Breakthrough Marks New Era in Personalised Treatment
A breakthrough in cancer treatment has been announced by Moderna and Merck & Co., with their personalised mRNA-based cancer vaccine delivering significant results in a late-stage melanoma trial. This achievement marks a major milestone for the companies, as it is the first time an mRNA-based cancer vaccine has demonstrated success in a large-scale study.
The vaccine reduced the rate of melanoma recurrence in the final-stage clinical trial, with investors and cancer researchers welcoming the announcement as a potentially significant turning point for the field. Moderna shares surged 177% on the day the results were reported, with the companies yet to disclose the full details or magnitude of the benefit.
