Moderna-Merck Cancer Vaccine Success Boosts Health Care Sector
The health care sector has logged its strongest week since June, driven largely by a clinical milestone announced by Moderna Inc. and Merck & Co.
On August 19, the companies revealed that their individualized mRNA cancer vaccine had succeeded in a late-stage melanoma trial.
The Phase 3 trial, dubbed INTerpath-001, tested an individualized cancer vaccine called intismeran autogene in combination with Merck's blockbuster immunotherapy Keytruda.
The study enrolled patients with completely resected stage IIB-IV melanoma, meaning the tumors had been surgically removed and patients were at high risk of recurrence.
