Visa, Mastercard, Fiserv Team Up to Write Rules for AI Agent Payments
Visa, Mastercard, and Fiserv have joined forces with other companies to create the Agentic Payments Alliance (APA), a coalition aimed at establishing common rules for agentic AI commerce.
The APA consists of 26 companies, including Circle, the Solana Foundation, and Remitly. The alliance's core goal is to set industry standards for autonomous AI agents to manage digital identities, process user loyalty programs, and detect fraud.
In addition to setting governance frameworks, the APA seeks to define the nascent industry before federal regulators step in. This effort is expected to reduce fragmentation and facilitate growth in the agentic commerce market, which could reach $3 trillion to $5 trillion by 2030, according to McKinsey.
