Moderna Stock Soars on Successful Melanoma Vaccine Trial Results
Moderna's stock surged after the company announced successful results from an experimental mRNA vaccine trial for melanoma, a deadly skin cancer. The study showed that the combination of Moderna's personalized cancer vaccine and Merck's Keytruda immunotherapy drug prevented melanoma from returning or spreading in high-risk patients who had undergone surgery.
The stock more than doubled on Wednesday morning, with shares rising 145% to $154.48. This is a significant increase from its pandemic-era peak in late 2021 and 2022, when the company's COVID-19 vaccine drove up demand for its stock.
According to Professor Georgina Long, the study's principal investigator, the results represent a 'landmark moment' for adjuvant melanoma treatment. She stated that this advancement has the potential to establish a new treatment paradigm in the adjuvant melanoma setting, helping patients remain cancer-free for longer.
