Moderna's mRNA Cancer Vaccine Shows Promising Results in Late-Stage Trial
Moderna and Merck have announced promising results for their mRNA-based cancer vaccine, Intismeran. The treatment reduced the risk of melanoma recurrence and spread in a late-stage trial.
The interim results showed that Intismeran met both goals of reducing cancer recurrence and preventing tumour spread. Moderna shares surged as much as 160 percent after the announcement.
According to Moderna President Stephen Hoge, thousands of patients who have had high-risk melanoma tumours removed in surgery could benefit from the vaccine by next year if it is approved by regulators.
