Monster Falls Behind Coke as Growth Concerns Rise
Over the past decade, an investment in Coca-Cola (KO) has generated total returns of 179.3%, which might seem impressive at first glance. However, Monster Beverage (MNST) outperformed Coca-Cola with a staggering 258.9% return on a $10,000 investment.
A $10,000 investment in Coca-Cola in 2016 is now worth $27,930, while the same amount invested in Monster is now worth $35,890, or 28.5% more than the Coca-Cola position.
Monster's growth far outpaced that of Coca-Cola during this period. From 2016 to 2025, its revenue increased by over threefold, from $3.05 billion to around $9.2 billion, representing annualized growth of about 13%. In contrast, Coca-Cola's revenue grew just 14.5% during the same time frame.
However, shares of Monster have underperformed relative to Coca-Cola since the start of 2026, with Monster generating total returns of over 27% year-to-date, versus 14.8% for Coca-Cola. As a result, some investors may be wondering if Coca-Cola could outperform Monster in the next decade.
