Monsters, Inc. Land Takes Shape at Disney World's Hollywood Studios

Disney's Hollywood Studios is undergoing a major transformation as crews work on Monstropolis, the new Monsters, Inc.-themed area taking over the former Grand Avenue and Muppet Courtyard section of the park. The project replaces an area that longtime Hollywood Studios visitors knew for years, including the former home of Muppet*Vision 3D.

Disney has previously confirmed that the land will open in 2027, but its latest construction update shows just how quickly some of the most important visual pieces are beginning to come together. Imagineers revealed that they expect to begin installing another layer of detailed theming on the actual buildings within weeks.

The main street of Monstropolis is named Dark Avenue and will essentially serve as the guide through the monster-filled city, leading toward one of the land's most anticipated additions: the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Factory suspended roller coaster.
