Moonshot AI Seeks Revenue Share with Google, Microsoft, Amazon on Kimi K3
China's Moonshot AI is in talks with major US cloud providers to host its Kimi K3 model, which has already gained recognition for its solid third-party benchmark scores. The startup is seeking up to 30% of revenue from services related to K3 if a deal is reached with Alphabet Inc.'s Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services.
The partnership would be the first substantial revenue-sharing contract between a Chinese AI business and a major US cloud provider, amid ongoing concerns about China's access to cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology. Kimi K3 has demonstrated competitive performance on complex tasks with top US systems, according to Reuters.
Hosting Kimi K3 could allow Google, Microsoft, and Amazon to offer more models to commercial customers and provide another channel to monetize AI demand. However, talks between the parties are still preliminary, with revenue sharing, data access, and usage audits remaining among the outstanding issues.
