Most Connecticut Businesses Open on Labor Day Except for Delivery Services

Labor Day is one of the most anticipated holidays in the United States, marking the unofficial end of summer. Observed on the first Monday of September, this year falls on Sept. 7, giving people a long weekend to unwind and enjoy some well-deserved time off.

While many think that federal holidays mean closed doors and restricted services, Connecticut is an exception. Most stores across the state plan to remain open on Labor Day, but it's essential to double-check local store hours as some may operate on limited hours or be closed for the day.

The list of open businesses is extensive, including major retail chains like Apple, Barnes and Noble, and Walmart. Grocery stores like ACME Markets, ALDI, and ShopRite will also be open, along with pharmacies CVS and Walgreens. Restaurants such as McDonald's, Burger King, and Starbucks are expected to operate as usual.

Delivery services, however, are a different story. Amazon is the only major package delivery carrier that plans to deliver on Monday, while FedEx and UPS, as well as the United States Postal Service, will be closed for deliveries. Government offices, including city and town halls, state and federal offices like the Department of Motor Vehicles, and state and federal courthouses, will also be closed.
