Motorola Phones Get Ready for GrapheneOS: A New Era of Privacy-Focused Devices
Motorola is partnering with GrapheneOS to release phones that meet the privacy-focused Android alternative's security requirements, but these devices will likely be priced higher than Google Pixel phones. The initial lineup of premium flagships from Motorola is expected to launch in 2027 and will come with seven years of proper software updates.
GrapheneOS has been built around privacy and security, adding features such as hardened memory management, granular network permissions, enhanced sandboxing, and other defenses beyond standard Android. Until now, Pixel phones have been the primary home for GrapheneOS due to Google's hardware meeting the project's strict security requirements.
Motorola's partnership with GrapheneOS marks a significant expansion for the project, which has effectively tied users to one hardware manufacturer. The company is dedicating engineering resources to porting and maintaining the software, while GrapheneOS will contribute directly to firmware and software support.
