Motorola's Moto Watch Ultra Takes Aim at Google's Pixel Watch 5 with Competitive Pricing
Motorola's Moto Watch Ultra has made its debut in the wearables market, undercutting Google's Pixel Watch 5 on LTE pricing. The Moto Watch Ultra went on sale September 10th for $349.99 with LTE capabilities, while the Pixel Watch 5 starts at $399 for the Wi-Fi model and $499.99 for the LTE version. Motorola is offering a stainless steel case, Polar fitness tools, and standard watch bands, whereas Google counters with Wear OS 7, newer hardware, and a broader health platform.
The Moto Watch Ultra runs on Wear OS 6, while the Pixel Watch 5 features Wear OS 7. The Moto Watch Ultra's processor is the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1, in comparison to the Pixel Watch 5's Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated and Cortex-M55 co-processor. Battery life also varies between the two devices, with Motorola claiming up to two days of active use without the always-on display enabled.
Motorola is emphasizing workouts, sleep, and recovery through its Polar fitness tools, whereas Google's Pixel Watch 5 offers a broader health platform that includes features such as blood-pressure trends, insulin-resistance trends, and sleep-breathing quality. The Moto Watch Ultra makes a strong case for buyers who want LTE capabilities without breaking the bank, but the decision ultimately comes down to upfront cost versus platform depth.
