Musk Takes Aim at Delta Over Starlink Choice
Elon Musk has taken aim at Delta Air Lines (DAL) over its decision to use Amazon Leo for in-flight internet instead of SpaceX's Starlink. This move comes as United Airlines expands Starlink across its fleet, with more than 600 aircraft equipped and plans to reach its entire fleet by the end of 2027.
Musk responded to a tweet highlighting the growing availability of Starlink on United Airlines aircraft, saying 'Delta will lose a lot of customers' due to their choice. Delta has chosen Amazon Leo for its in-flight WiFi starting from 2028.
BMO Capital analyst Michael Goldie recently cut Delta's price target to $100 from $105 due to higher fuel costs, which are pushing jet-fuel prices toward $4.30-$4.50 per gallon. Delta Air Lines stock has gained over 7% in September and is on track to reverse two straight months of losses.
The industry-wide turbulence caused by higher fuel expenses, aircraft delivery delays, and disruptions tied to the U.S.-Iran conflict have squeezed margins across the airline industry. However, Delta has managed to gain 21% so far this year.
