Nadella Warns Trust Must Be Earned for Microsoft's Autopilot
Microsoft has unveiled a revamped version of its Copilot software, combining chat, coding, and agentic capabilities into a single package called Autopilot. The platform is designed to serve as a one-stop shop for work needs, such as preparing pitch documents or creating spreadsheets, with AI providing users with insights they may not see.
However, CEO Satya Nadella warned that trust will be the biggest issue in winning over customers. 'Trust is going to be the biggest issue for us,' he said. 'Can I really trust [AI] with all of my credentials when it does autonomous activity? How do I make sure that this is something that I can feel that I'm in control of?'
To address these concerns, Microsoft will offer two billing options: standard per-user plans for general AI work and a pay-as-you-go option for long-tail, multistep agentic work. The dual offerings aim to be beneficial to users as AI model makers and providers gradually reduce customer subsidies.
