Nagpur MRO First in India to Install NGS on Boeing 737-800
Air India Engineering Services Limited’s (AIESL) Mihan unit in Nagpur has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India capable of installing the advanced Nitrogen Generation System (NGS) on Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The Nagpur team successfully installed the system on Air India Express aircraft VT-AXM, completing the complex modification two days ahead of schedule.
NGS is a critical aircraft safety system designed to mitigate the risk of fire or explosion in the center fuel tank by replacing oxygen-rich air with nitrogen-enriched air. The installation underscores AIESL Nagpur’s growing expertise in handling advanced aircraft safety modifications.
Air India Express officials commended the Nagpur team for their coordination and technical proficiency, highlighting their ability to finish the project ahead of the stipulated deadline. This new capability is expected to enhance AIESL Nagpur’s role in India’s expanding aviation maintenance sector.
The development also aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to strengthen domestic MRO capabilities and reduce dependence on foreign facilities.
