Namibia Takes Seat Among Global AI Leaders
Namibia has secured a spot among the founding members of the AI for Good Global Commission, joining global leaders in shaping the future governance of artificial intelligence.
The country's participation was announced by ICT Minister Emma Theofelus at the launch of the ninth National ICT Summit in Windhoek. She said Namibia could no longer afford to remain on the sidelines of the rapidly evolving AI revolution, which has the potential to improve public service delivery, support education and skills development, increase business productivity, and help the government make better decisions through data.
The commission was launched by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in July, with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Salesforce chair and CEO Marc Benioff serving as co-chairs. Theofelus emphasized that Namibia's participation gives the country a seat at the global table where norms and standards around AI governance are being shaped.
The summit will focus on harnessing ICT for inclusive growth, digital pathways to reduce unemployment and eradicate poverty. It is themed 'Harnessing ICT for Inclusive Growth: Digital Pathways to Reduce Unemployment and Eradicate Poverty.'
