NASA Bails Out Boeing's Starliner with $359 Million Rescue Package

NASA has decided to invest more funds into Boeing's Starliner astronaut capsule after its troubled debut in 2024 left two test pilots stranded at the International Space Station for nearly a year. The agency reclassified the mission as a 'Type A mishap,' its most severe ranking, due to numerous problems that arose during the flight.

The Starliner is expected to make a new and improved launch by December, but it will only carry cargo, not crew. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman announced that astronauts won't be on board until 2028 because of the need for further safety redesigns, which could take months or even years to complete.

Manager Dana Weigel emphasized the importance of resolving all issues with the Starliner before putting astronauts back on board. 'Bottom line: We're on the right path,' said NASA astronaut Woody Hoburg, who will command the next Starliner flight.
