NASA, Boeing Eye Starliner for Decade of Low-Orbit Missions
Boeing and NASA are discussing plans to use the Starliner vehicle for at least 10 new missions in the coming years. The aim is to maintain U.S. access to low-Earth orbit, where the International Space Station operates.
A NASA spokesman confirmed that the agency is developing plans to meet objectives for a continued presence in low Earth orbit and will release details soon. Boeing also expressed its commitment to NASA's efforts, with a spokesperson stating they anticipate launching the next Starliner mission.
This news comes after NASA previously selected Starliner to conduct up to six missions. However, a test flight in summer 2024 encountered performance issues, including failed thrusters, which created safety concerns for the crew. The Starliner has since not flown, returning to Earth empty in September 2024.
