NASA Gives Boeing's Starliner Capsule Another Shot at Redemption

NASA has given Boeing's Starliner capsule another chance to redeem itself after a troubled test mission in 2024. The space agency initially classified the failed flight as a crew-endangering 'Type A mishap', its most severe ranking.

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were stuck at the International Space Station for nearly a year due to the Starliner's problems. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman announced that Boeing should be ready to launch a new and improved Starliner by December, carrying cargo but no crew.

The agency plans to add further safety redesigns, which could take months or even years to complete. Astronaut Woody Hoburg will command the next Starliner flight and expressed confidence in the capsule's progress: 'Bottom line: We're on the right path.'
