NASA Throws Lifeline to Troubled Boeing Spacecraft with $359 Million Boost
NASA has announced it will provide extra support and funding to Boeing's Starliner spacecraft to get it back on track. The space agency wants to see the capsule, which was involved in a botched mission in 2024, fixed and flying again as soon as possible.
The Starliner had so many problems during its test flight that its two pilots were stuck at the International Space Station for nearly a year. NASA later reclassified the mission as a 'Type A mishap', its most severe ranking.
According to NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, Boeing should be ready to launch a new and improved Starliner by December, but it will not carry astronauts until 2028 due to safety concerns.
The extra support comes with a price tag of $359 million, which includes new valves and seals. NASA is keen to redeem Boeing's ride as the space agency wants reliable taxi service for its orbital outposts.
