NASA’s Moon Base Leader Carlos García-Galán Shapes Lunar Future
Carlos García-Galán ’97, ’97, a graduate of Florida Tech with degrees in electrical engineering and space sciences, is now leading NASA’s ambitious Moon Base program. As the program manager, he is spearheading efforts to establish a permanent human presence on the lunar surface, marking a significant leap in space exploration.
The Moon Base initiative aims to build humanity’s first deep space outpost, starting with robotic missions and testing essential technologies. García-Galán emphasizes the importance of collaboration, working with industry partners, international space agencies, and government entities to achieve this goal. His role involves uniting these teams and guiding the project from its early stages to the construction of permanent lunar infrastructure.
García-Galán’s journey to this leadership position began during his time at Florida Tech, where he covered space-focused articles for the student newspaper and even attended shuttle launches. His career has spanned critical roles, including serving as an International Space Station flight controller, working at Honeywell Space Systems, and contributing to the Orion spacecraft program.
