Navigating Without Navigation Apps: A Week of Trial and Error
Akshay Bhalla, a tech enthusiast and writer, recently conducted an experiment where he went a week without using any navigation apps, including Google Maps and Waze. He wanted to see if it was possible to navigate roads and find businesses without relying on these tools.
Bhalla started by exploring his neighborhood, which wasn't too challenging since he's lived there for 26 years. However, when he had to travel further away from home, he encountered difficulties in finding the right route and even getting lost at times.
He noticed that without Google Maps, it took him much longer to find what he was looking for, often requiring him to ask around or rely on vague directions from strangers. However, this lack of reliance on technology led him to discover new hidden cafes and eateries that he might have otherwise overlooked.
Bhalla's experiment continued when he tried navigating with a physical map, but even that proved difficult as he couldn't find one to buy. He eventually stuck to his daily commute but experienced increased stress levels and tested patience while trying to navigate without the aid of navigation apps.
