Navy Delays F/A-XX Selection as Boeing and Northrop Grumman Compete
The F/A-XX program, aimed at replacing the Super Hornet fighter jet, has been plagued by delays. The Navy had initially promised to select a builder in August, but it's now September and there's still no announcement.
Boeing and Northrop Grumman are competing for the contract, with both companies expressing confidence in their designs. However, Aviation Week reported that the Navy was 'still hopeful' an announcement would be made, suggesting that the process is taking longer than expected.
The F/A-XX program has been a topic of discussion in recent months, particularly due to concerns about Boeing's workload with other projects, including the sixth-generation F-47. However, Steve Parker, the CEO of Boeing Defense, Space and Security, pushed back on this narrative during an interview at the Farnborough International Airshow.
The White House has allocated $140 million for the F/A-XX program in its 2027 budget blueprint.
