Navy Picks Boeing for Next-Gen Fighter Jet Project
The US Navy has awarded a $20 billion contract to Boeing for its next-generation fighter jet project, dubbed the F/A-XX.
The contract marks a major milestone in the development of the sixth-generation fighter, which is expected to replace the Navy's existing fleet of EA-18G Growlers and F/A-18E/F Super Hornets in the 2030s.
According to Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao, the F/A-XX represents a 'generational leap' in air superiority and will provide pilots with unparalleled capabilities.
The project has been in the works for several years, but it's only now that Boeing will begin producing the aircraft for testing and evaluation.
