Nest Prices Skyrocket as Google Passes Along Component Costs
Google has quietly increased the prices of its Nest security products in the US. The price hikes, which took effect on August 31, affect almost all Nest cameras and doorbells. According to Google, rising component costs are the reason for the change.
The price increases range from $20 to $50 per product, with some models seeing a significant jump. For example, the Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) now costs $199.99, up from $149.99. The Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen) and Nest Doorbell (battery) also saw price increases of $20 each.
The only Nest product that has escaped the price hike is the Nest Cam with Floodlight bundle, which remains at its previous price of $279.99. Google's other smart home products, such as the Google Home Speaker and Nest Learning Thermostat, still retain their original prices.
Google stated that it will continue to provide feature updates and security improvements for its Nest products despite the price increases. The changes are currently limited to the US market, but some third-party retailers may still have existing stock at the old prices.
