Netflix and Disney Partner to Bring Percy Jackson and Ice Age to Streamers
Netflix has struck a new licensing agreement with Disney Entertainment, marking a shift in the streaming landscape. The deal brings several Disney-owned titles to Netflix, including the first two seasons of the fantasy series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Based on the beloved book series by Rick Riordan, the show follows Percy Jackson, a demigod son of Poseidon, as he navigates life at Camp Half-Blood. Walker Scobell stars as Percy, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri. The first two seasons will be available on Netflix for a limited time, ending three months before the Season 3 premiere on Disney+ on November 20.
In addition to Percy Jackson, all five Ice Age movies are also part of the deal, available on Netflix for a three-month window. This strategy aims to attract new audiences, particularly younger viewers, ahead of the upcoming theatrical release of Ice Age: Boiling Point on February 5, 2027. The Ice Age franchise became part of Disney's portfolio following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019. However, the poorly received spin-off The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, released exclusively on Disney+ in 2022, is not included in the Netflix deal.
